Amanda Palmer is a performer, director, composer and musician who is best known for her role as front woman and keyboardist for the internationally acclaimed punk cabaret band The Dresden Dolls. In 2008, Amanda released Who Killed Amanda Palmer, her debut solo album which was produced by Ben Folds and was accompanied with the release of a fine art photography book on which she collaborated with esteemed author Neil Gaiman. After touring the world endlessly (live highlights include three critically-hailed performances with the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall, residency at the Famous Spiegeltent at Edinburgh, and a critically acclaimed performance at the 2009 Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival), Amanda took on the role of the Emcee in a sold out run of the Kander & Ebb musical “Cabaret” with the legendary American Repertory Theater in the Fall of 2010. As the undisputed champion artist of the emerging music business scene, she was named Artist of the Year 2010 by the Boston Music Awards. Amanda also tends a widely-read blog and twitter-feed and was dubbed “The Social Media Queen of Rock-N-Roll” by The Huffington Post.
“…Dark and jubilant…”
– New York Times
“AMANDA PALMER IS THE SHIT!!!”
– David Lynch
“… Palmer’s songs about alcoholism and romance deftly teeter along the vamp-virgin divide.”
– Timothy Gunatilaka, Planet
“From the personal, over-sentimental inflection of the lyrics to the relentless dramatic style – on top of the flawless production of Ben Folds – this is proof that Palmer can go light years beyond piano and drums.”
– Janine Rizak, Beyond Race
“Comparatively alone with her piano, her unfurling splendor in “Ampersand” is a wonder, but it can’t hold a candle to the jazzed stomp of “Leeds United,” where pounding drums and blaring horns really bring her point home. When she slows the tempo to a grind on the ethereal “Blake Says,” the taste is sweet sadness indeed. But when the doo-wop pop of “Oasis” kicks in, Palmer hits the next level.”
– Metromix.com
“Palmer and Folds are truly kindred spirits, two piano-pounding songwriters with knacks for crazy-good melodies and wicked senses of humor – we don’t know anybody else who could make a song about rape and abortion (‘Melissa Mahoney”) poignant, funny, and catchy.”
– Trevor Fisher, IE (Illinois Entertainer)
“Talking to this pianist/songstress is like peeling back the layers of an onion. A freaky, talented, German cabaret-styled onion.”
– Bettie Magazine
“Flawed but intriguing.”
– Australian Stage
“…To say her songs are the stuff of legend is no overstatement…”
– The Big Cheese, UK
“The dramatic, emotional material clearly connected with fans who spilled out of the tent trying to see the set. Amanda jumped to the top of my Coachella list after a terrific performance…Amanda ****ING Palmer, indeed!”
– Orange County Register
“A Veritable Force of Nature.”
– Huffington Post
